**Engineering Manager, Cloud-Init Team Lead**

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud-Init team at Canonical. As a key member of our engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for managing a globally distributed team of engineers, developing talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development, and working with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team.
Key Responsibilities- Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
- Develop and implement strategies to drive team growth, talent development, and retention, ensuring a strong pipeline of future leaders.
- Collaborate with Product Management to define product vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Effectively manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
- Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices, ensuring the team is equipped to deliver high-quality software efficiently.
- Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture, aligned with company values and principles.
- Participate in strong engineering process through code and architectural review, ensuring high-quality software delivery.
- Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners, fostering collaboration and driving business growth.
- Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.
- Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches.
- 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers, with a strong track record of developing and growing people.
- Knowledgeable and passionate about software development, with a deep understanding of modern software development practices and principles.
- Experience managing distributed teams is a plus, with a proven ability to foster collaboration and drive results in a remote work environment.
- Focused on success and the delivery of timely, high-quality software, with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.
- Experience working in an agile development environment, with a deep understanding of agile methodologies and principles.
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degree, with a strong foundation in software development and engineering principles.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, Debian or Ubuntu preferred, with a strong understanding of Linux system administration and development.
- Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services, with a deep understanding of cloud computing and infrastructure.
