KWS Saat SE is seeking an experienced Plant Breeding Specialist to join our research and development team in Mexico. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the execution of our R&D strategy and support breeding activities.

Job Purpose

As a Plant Breeding Specialist, you will work under the supervision of a Breeder to give direction to our breeding program, guiding the development of new varieties that meet our company's strategy for a short time-to-market introduction.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Assist and support the Breeder in optimizing the efficiency and output of our breeding program by designing and implementing new technologies and breeding methods to ensure a constant flow of commercially successful varieties.
  • Management of Information: Design, evaluate, and formulate with the Breeder the short-term breeding plan, work process, and performance by means of drawing up trial data in a filing system, preparing summary reports, giving feedback, making proposals, and drawing conclusions about the breeding program to facilitate divisional and corporate decision-making.
  • Breeding trials: Design, plan, implement, execute, evaluate, analyze, interpret, and document autonomously breeding trials and their results in line with the breeding plan, guidelines, and procedures to optimize the efficiency and output of the breeding program.
  • Basic Stock Seeds: Manage and execute the increase and maintenance of basic stock seed in coordination with the Breeder, Stock Seed, and/or Production departments to ensure the availability of the quantity and quality of basic stock seeds.
  • Administration: Manage accurate and detailed breeding administration within the breeding team and conform to the procedures and guidelines in the breeding department to enable the running of an efficient and effective breeding program. Fill budget plan forms for the respective breeding segments together with the Breeder.
  • Management: Coordinate and communicate breeding program activities to technical assistants and crop technicians within the breeding team and provide them with technical advice to meet agreed standards, time planning, and budgets.
  • Market Knowledge: Develop and maintain an updated and broad vision on market demands and translate market demands into breeding goals to act as an equal discussion partner with the Breeder on all breeding issues and to replace the Breeder for short to medium-term periods.

This role requires a strong understanding of horticultural practices and procedures, genetics, and plant breeding. If you have a BSc/MSc in horticulture, plant breeding, genetics, or a closely related field and several years of experience in plant breeding, we encourage you to apply.

We offer a competitive salary of approximately $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on your qualifications and experience.
