Senior Software Engineer

Corning Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team in the development and integration of measurement and inspection systems for global manufacturing. As a key member of our team, you will use computer science and software engineering principles to support global initiatives in the development and sustainment of measurement platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with team members and stakeholders to define, develop, and implement product measurement, instrumentation, and data management systems for a global production environment.
- Software Development and Support: Use proven software development methodologies and support other software engineers in the use of the same. Develop and support measurement system software and interfaces for both front-end and back-end systems.
- Global Resource Collaboration: Work with and support global resources, including IT Security, to maintain the security conformance of measurement and test systems in the production environment.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Provide troubleshooting support for equipment and process issues during equipment installation and start-up phases, identify root cause, and implement corrective actions.
- Training and Knowledge Sharing: Train engineering, maintenance, and operations resources to use and maintain measurement systems.
- Supplier Collaboration: Leverage external suppliers with key technologies or systems integration expertise to develop, procure, build, and install test applications in measurement platforms.
- Quality Assurance: Assure quality and repeatability of processes and measurement systems software.
- Health and Safety: Visibly support the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment.
- Education: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Computer Systems, or Computer Science.
- Experience: 5+ years of work experience in systems development, test equipment integration and/or software development.
- Skills: Strong English and Spanish written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Strong time management skills to be able to manage multiple projects and tasks in parallel. Strong initiative and self-motivated. Ambition and ability to independently fill gaps in knowledge and expertise through self-guided learning. Excellent problem-solving skills. Experience with manufacturing test systems and/or instrumentation. Experience with computer-based measurement equipment setup and support. Knowledge and experience in C# software development for Windows based systems. Experience in client/server system development in an Oracle or SQL Server environment. Firm understanding of Oracle or SQL Server relational databases, their use, and SQL language elements. Experience in the design of relational database data structures including the use of indexes and triggers. Ability to interface with Oracle or SQL Server through either Stored Procedure calls or dynamic SQL. Ability to develop Oracle or SQL Server Stored Procedures, Functions, and Views. Experience in the use of proven software development methodologies, for example Agile. Experience in data acquisition system interfacing either through direct API calls, SCPI protocols, or other communication protocols. Ability to work in technical project teams in leadership and team member roles. Able to make sound decisions by blending analytical thinking with practical judgment. Accountable for actions/behaviors. Ability to work closely with internal customers around the world to meet customer requirements. Ability to work individually and on teams to execute projects on time, on budget, and with expected results. Ability to work in a multi-cultural team.
- Test Equipment Knowledge: Working knowledge of test equipment used to characterize various fiber optic assemblies. This can include but is not limited to – equipment capable of measuring optical power loss, attenuation (OTDR), interferometers, and microscopy (end-face inspection) equipment.
- Programming Skills: Working knowledge and experience in LabVIEW. Working knowledge and experience in Python. Experience in the use of Source Code Control systems, particularly Git repositories. Experience working within a global team of developers on a single source code project. Experience in RS232/USB/GPIB/Ethernet interfacing to data acquisition hardware. Experience in Optical Communication product test methods, characteristics, and data acquisition hardware. Experience with image capture systems or machine vision systems (Like Keyence, Cognex, Omron). Experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems.
- Project Management: Demonstrated project management experience.
