Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Retail Service Agent - Freight Handler to join our team at FedEx. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate handling of high-value freight, while maintaining compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, process, and dispatch high-value freight in accordance with individual customer requirements
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, company, and ISO requirements related to the storage and movement of goods
  • Support the Manager/Team Leader by performing additional defined duties, including short-term work allocation, procedural checks, and resolution of exception situations
  • Perform defined security and safety checks on freight/goods and comply with all legal, regulatory, and ISO requirements when operating equipment
  • Coordinate schedules of receivables with carriers to ensure timely and efficient turnaround
  • Progress all deviations from agreed schedules
  • Receive bulk freight, including dangerous goods, from multiple carriers/customers, checking paperwork for completeness and ensuring all delivery details are correct
  • Deal with carrier/customer queries by providing the correct information or escalating the query to the correct area
  • Offload vehicles and ULDs using mandatory safe working practices and split within defined sort parameters and appropriate locations
  • Inspect freight in accordance with defined procedures and perform visual checks to identify shortages, overages, or possible damage
  • Report immediately to the driver and relevant area/department using agreed tools/procedures
  • Use appropriate equipment to perform physical 'put away' of freight to the designated area/s
  • Check product to paperwork to ensure that the correct goods are stored
  • Perform a physical count to check SKU, quantity, serial numbers, etc., and report using defined documentation
  • Use appropriate equipment to pick goods in the required sequence, ensuring all details are correct (SKU, quantity, serial number, etc.)
  • Verify the accuracy of the pick list to the customer's actual documentation and report exceptions to the relevant area
  • Pack goods in accordance with each customer's defined requirements and any legal or dangerous goods requirements
  • Sign the pick and pack documentation and accurately complete all relevant information and send details promptly to the office
  • Prepare goods for dispatch by matching labels to the appropriate goods and moving goods to relevant area
  • Dispatch goods to the approved carrier, providing guidance when needed on the correct procedural checks to be followed to ensure that the goods are accurate and complete
  • Use equipment to correctly load freight/goods in accordance with the driver's specific requirements
  • Process all types of returns (receives, checks, allocate area, reports, etc.) in accordance with defined procedures and specific customer requirements
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new processes and procedures by providing relevant operational information and expertise to ensure the solution is viable and the most cost-effective and efficient for the warehouse to perform
  • Provide standard and ad-hoc verbal and written updates/reports summarizing key warehouse performance statistics or issues at agreed times
  • Perform all related support duties, including providing cover for other areas and operating in contingency situations by following required procedures
Requirements
  • Experience in a FedEx SCS warehouse operation with a good knowledge of the operation and the requirements of its key customers
  • Competent at picking and packing with a good knowledge of relevant working methods
  • Good planning and organizing skills with the ability to determine and coordinate sequences of tasks for self and others
  • Experience of working effectively with multiple work processes and procedures
  • Good interpretation skills with experience of translating customer-specific instructions into actual requirements
  • Basic skills in using technology, e.g., scanner/printer/intranet, with the ability to perform basic maintenance tasks
