Senior Systems Engineer

In this role as a Senior Systems Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing Automation Infrastructure for enterprise VMware environments.
  • Developing and managing automation scripts and workflows for VMware systems (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi) utilizing tools such as PowerCLI, Ansible, Python, and other automation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with vRA, vRO, and vROps.
  • Proficient understanding of VMware API and ServiceNow API environments.
  • Experience with GitHub repositories.
  • Grasping the product architecture, existing automation frameworks/tools, and release processes.
  • Executing automation tasks and analyzing results.
  • Enhancing the automation framework and automating functional tests.
  • Collaborating with other functional teams, architects, product managers, and business stakeholders to identify the technical and functional requirements of systems.
  • Providing 24x7 support and managing VMware infrastructure to ensure optimal availability and performance.
  • Overseeing vulnerability management and patch management.
  • Troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • Leading recovery efforts from significant incidents.
  • Employing a logical and methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Participating in root cause analysis for incidents as necessary.
  • Automating backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Delivering architectural solutions to develop Self-Service Portals and infrastructure automation.
  • Identifying and implementing automation orchestration opportunities across the organization.
  • Integrating ServiceNow with VMware infrastructure to streamline IT service management and operations.
  • Maintaining thorough documentation of automation scripts, workflows, and procedures.

About You

You are an ideal candidate if your qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or a related discipline.
  • Over 6 years of experience with VMware, particularly in automation.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (Python, PowerCLI, Ansible, etc.).
  • Competence in using GitHub and APIs (VMware and ServiceNow).
  • A strong understanding of VMware technologies and virtual infrastructure.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • VMware certification (e.g., VCP) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Pure Storage is a plus.
  • Ability to work closely with internal customers to understand their needs, technology landscape, and evolving requirements.
  • A solid understanding of Thomson Reuters product lines and supported technologies.
  • Awareness of internal business processes and their impact on the organization.
  • Understanding of strategic vision at the project level and assisting in project strategy formulation and implementation.
  • Capability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
