The immigration process can be complicated, confusing, and frightening. We strive to be clear, honest, and a safe place for immigrants and their families. In this role, your analytical skills, organization, and empathy will have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of others.
The Immigration Legal Assistant is a foundational, client-facing and backend role that supports case managers and attorneys in moving immigration cases forward efficiently, accurately, and compassionately. This position is both deeply educational and rewarding, offering hands-on experience across family- and humanitarian-based immigration matters.
This is a fully remote, 40 hours a week, independent contractor position in a fast-paced, collaborative, and high-performing legal environment.
Responsibilities
- Timely respond to reasonable requests for information or communication by clients.
- Conduct excellent research and writing.
- Fill out and assemble immigration application forms and packets.
- Provide legal support and aid to team members and attorneys.
- Update and maintain case lists, case progress, deadlines, and milestones.
- Actively engage in dialogue with attorneys and legal team regarding case processes, legal questions, and more.
Compensation
- Base salary will be determined based on your experience, to include performance-based incentive pay.
Qualifications:
- Effective oral and written communication in both English and Spanish.
- Demonstrate high level of rhetorical (persuasive) writing and editing skills.
- Analytical mindset and rigorous approach to evaluating arguments and evidence.
- Flexible and able to quickly adapt to rapid changes in the workplace.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong word processing and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with utilizing technology in your work.
- Thorough attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
- Windows computer required
