Job Summary:

Teacher Assistants contribute significantly to the high-quality education we offer our students. TAs are assigned to one classroom for the school year and work closely with the classroom teacher, developing close relationships with the students and understanding their individual strengths and weaknesses. They support the classroom teacher in planning and implementing the best possible program for the class.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with large group activities.
  • Help with classroom management.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce concepts introduced by the teacher.
  • Guide independent study and enrichment work.
  • Alert the teacher to problems or special information about individual students.
  • Direct parent concerns to teacher and refrain from discussing students with parents unless asked by the teacher.
  • Speak English to students in the classroom and at recess, except during kinder Spanish class or when translating for the teacher.
  • Be punctual for class and prep time.
  • Assist in preparing materials for projects and keeping the classroom neat and clean.
  • Check student work and show initiative in suggesting projects.
  • Serve as a substitute teacher in the teacher's absence, adhering to the established routine.
  • Refrain from interrupting the teaching process, saving personal observations and comments for a time when children are not waiting for instruction.
  • Perform recess and morning duty effectively, arriving promptly for recess duty, and maintain a caring attitude toward students and parents.

  • Strong oral and writing skills in English.
  • Genuine interest and love for teaching.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships with students.
  • Responsible and dependable.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
