Ocean Coordinator, Mexico

**About the Program**:
The World Resources Institute’s (WRI) Ocean Program is focused on accelerating progress toward a sustainable ocean economy and achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 14 - the Ocean Goal. The program supports efforts to address the numerous challenges the ocean faces and encourage conservation of the marine environment alongside the sustainable use of the marine resources. Through the Ocean Program, WRI has set out to build a greater understanding among governments, business leaders, financiers and practitioners of the opportunities, solutions, values and contribution of the ocean to the global economy, human health and wellbeing, and to accelerate knowledge-based decision making and solutions that drive inclusive ocean based economic opportunities while sustaining ocean ecosystems and coastal populations. WRI also serves as the Secretariat to three globally influential ocean initiatives, the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy (Ocean Panel), the Friends of Ocean Action (with the World Economic Forum), and the Ocean Action 2030 coalition.

**Job Highlight**:
In this role you will support the delivery, and the development of WRI’s Ocean Program and its associated work streams in Mexico, with particular emphasis given to providing support to the Mexican government in the implementation of the activities and recommendations of the Ocean Panel. You will also continue the development and implementation of the ocean program in Mexico, together with the global ocean team, and WRI Mexico´s forest and ocean and climate teams. You will contribute research and insights to inform key WRI and Ocean Panel knowledge products in development (where relevant); and collaborate with the Ocean Panel Secretariat and WRI Ocean Program for awareness, coordination, exchange and joint learning on ocean related work. You will also contribute to the development of WRI’s Ocean Program by exploring opportunities for alignment, amplification and further development of ocean related activities, including contributing to funding proposals and reporting of evidence based impact. You will also coordinate high level meetings and workshops. You will work closely with the members of the WRI Ocean team, the Ocean Panel Secretariat and WRI Mexico’s forest, ocean and climate teams. You will report to Javier Warman, Forests Director, WRI Mexico.

**What will you do**:
**Support the effective delivery of the Ocean Panel agenda (50%)**:

- Support the Mexican Government in the effective implementation of the Ocean Panel action agenda and related follow up
- Support the effective engagement of Mexican representatives in Ocean Panel activities and event(s) including those related to Sustainable Ocean Plans. To include engagement to understand and document domestic progress, experiences and priorities for action and associated technical and financial support needs (as appropriate)
- Support the coordination and delivery of regional gatherings (virtual and/or in-person) among Ocean Panel representatives, as appropriate
- Share information with the WRI Ocean Program with respect to the implementation of Ocean Panel recommendations in Mexico - particularly around domestic priorities and/or commitments made to enable effective tracking by the Secretariat

**Program development and implementation in WRI Mexico (40%)**:

- Support implementation of existing and emerging workstreams within the WRI Mexico program as required to advance elements of work in line with the strategy and theory of change for WRI’s Ocean Program
- Contribute to the production of knowledge products on sustainable ocean economy issues
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with WRI’s programs, centers and other international offices as relevant to maximise synergies and leverage the existing knowledge, research and expertise of WRI
- Help develop new opportunities, partnerships and fundraising proposals for marine and coastal related activities, including ecosystem restoration, blue food and blue carbon goals
- Support the ongoing ocean information initiative with government dependencies, for an ocean knowledge platform, which will provide a system for the follow-up, monitoring and report of healthy ocean indicators
- Support program planning and reporting processes across the WRI matrix

**Communications (10%)**:

- Engage with government agencies and communications focal points for the planning of high-level Ocean Panel meetings and engagements via international or regional platforms such as UN General Assembly, G20 and UNFCCC COP, and support the design of high level events and associated materials
- ** **Collaborate with the communications team to relay key messages from research and knowledge products and support the development of communications materials for use across WRI’s communications channels, including toolkits, blogs and newsletters
