Job Overview

The role involves strategizing and facilitating the exchange of aggregates and mining expertise across CEMEX's specialized networks to enhance cost-effectiveness and guarantee the availability of technology for production, maintenance, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, assess, and oversee policies, procedures, and metrics to maintain the competitiveness of aggregates and raw materials throughout their lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and organize expert networks pertinent to production, maintenance, and quality assurance for quarries, ensuring efficient knowledge transfer across the organization.
  • Evaluate and coordinate the operational requirements of quarries, including human resources, training programs, safety protocols, and technological needs, to implement company-wide solutions.
  • Formulate and oversee global policies and guidelines to ensure effective planning, exploration, extraction, and site restoration, adhering to all legal standards.
  • Lead technology assessment initiatives within the organization for mining and aggregates processing, identifying suitable technologies and suppliers.
  • Propose technology investment strategies to the Operations for their strategic planning.
  • Initiate and manage global projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, maintenance reliability, quality, and overall management.
  • Establish and evaluate metrics related to production, maintenance, and quality technology, particularly for capital expenditures exceeding US $1 million.
  • Approve technology selections for capital expenditures related to aggregates within specified financial limits.
  • Assess and evaluate the potential of initiatives for global implementation across CEMEX.
  • Conduct regular audits of aggregate and raw materials quarries from technical, environmental, and legal perspectives.

Challenges of the Position

  • Build and manage a global network from the ground up in a business that traditionally operates on a local scale.
  • Establish a recognized point of contact for all aggregates and mining business units within the organization.
  • Gain peer recognition as a leading authority in geology, mining, and aggregates processing.
  • Navigate the complexities of a multicultural environment and diverse local construction practices to foster a unified global approach.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Geology, Mining, Engineering, or Administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and JDE/SAP.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English.
  • 8-10 years of experience in Quarry Operations and 3-5 years in Corporate Management.
  • Recognized technical expertise in aggregates and mining, with a strong grasp of relevant technologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of geology, mining processes, and the interactions between aggregates, cement, and admixtures.
  • Proven experience in managing mining and aggregates operations, with proficiency in cement and ready-mix knowledge.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, capable of solving complex problems and working collaboratively towards common objectives.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and self-driven individual with exceptional communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, team-oriented mindset, and ethical approach to business.

Internal and External Relations

Internal: Collaboration with various departments including Countries, Cement/Aggregates, Planning, Legal, Environment, HR, and Safety.

External: Engagement with Suppliers, Professional Organizations, Customers, Regulators, and Universities.
