Job Overview

The role involves strategizing and orchestrating the dissemination of knowledge and best practices in aggregates and mining across CEMEX's expert networks. The aim is to enhance cost efficiency and ensure the availability of technology for production, maintenance, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, assess, and oversee policies, procedures, and metrics to maintain the competitiveness of aggregates and raw materials throughout their lifecycle.
  • Facilitate the organization and coordination of expertise networks related to production, maintenance, and quality control in quarries, ensuring effective knowledge transfer across the organization.
  • Evaluate and coordinate the operational requirements of quarries, including human resources, development programs, safety training, and equipment needs, to implement company-wide solutions.
  • Formulate and manage global policies and guidelines for reserves planning, exploration, extraction, and site reclamation, ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Lead technology assessment initiatives within the company for mining and aggregates processing, identifying suitable technologies and suppliers.
  • Create technology investment proposals for Operations' three-year strategic plans.
  • Design and implement global initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency, maintenance availability, quality, and management practices.
  • Establish and evaluate metrics for production, maintenance, and quality technology, including the selection of technology for capital expenditures exceeding US $1 million.
  • Approve technology selections for aggregates-related capital expenditures within specified financial parameters.
  • Assess and analyze the potential of initiatives for global implementation across CEMEX.
  • Conduct regular audits of aggregate and raw materials quarries from technical, environmental, and legal perspectives.

Challenges of the Position

  • Build and coordinate a global network from the ground up for a business that traditionally operates on a local scale.
  • Establish a recognized point of contact for all aggregates and mining business units within the organization.
  • Gain recognition among peers as a knowledgeable expert in geology, mining, and aggregates processing.
  • Navigate the complexities of a multicultural environment and diverse local construction practices to develop a cohesive global strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology, Mining, Engineering, or Administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and JDE/SAP.
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English.
  • 8-10 years of experience in Quarry Operations and 3-5 years in Corporate Management.
  • Technical expertise recognized formally and informally in aggregates and mining. Strong knowledge of geology, mining processes, crushing, classification, washing, loading, and transportation. Comprehensive understanding of aggregates quality and interactions with cement and admixtures. Experience in managing mining and aggregates operations, with proficiency in cement, admixtures, and ready-mix processes.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to define and resolve complex problems. Strong analytical capabilities to identify key facts for comprehensive problem-solving. Ability to collaborate effectively with others to achieve shared objectives.
  • Personal attributes include high motivation, proactivity, and self-drive. Strong business-oriented analytical thinking. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Leadership qualities, teamwork, advisory capabilities, charisma, and ethical conduct.

Internal and External Relations

Internal: Collaboration with various departments including Countries, Cement/Aggregates, Planning, Legal, Environment, HR, and Safety.

External: Engagement with suppliers, professional organizations, customers, regulators, and academic institutions.
