About the Role

Socotra, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Manager to lead our Incident Response Team. As a key member of our security organization, you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers dedicated to identifying, responding to, and mitigating incidents that impact our services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of incident response engineers. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and excellence. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
  2. Incident Response: Oversee the identification, investigation, and resolution of incidents. Ensure timely and effective response to incidents to minimize impact on services.
  3. Process Improvement: Develop and implement processes and tools to improve incident detection, response, and resolution. Continuously evaluate and enhance incident response procedures.
  4. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other engineering teams, security teams, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination during incidents.
  5. Training and Development: Provide training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge in incident response and related areas.
  6. Metrics and Reporting: Maintain and report on key metrics related to incident response performance. Provide regular updates to senior management on the status of incidents and response efforts.
  7. On-Call Management: Manage the on-call rotation for the incident response team. Ensure that the team is adequately staffed and prepared to respond to incidents at all times.
  8. Performance Management: Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members.
  9. Strategic Planning: Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization.
  10. Talent Acquisition: Work closely with the Socotra, Inc. recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds.
Requirements
  1. Significant past experience in incident response, including tools, technologies, and frameworks.
  2. Proven experience in leading and managing security teams, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
  3. Strong technical background with experience in threat hunting, security alert handling/management, security operations, and/or related fields.
  4. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly assess situations and make informed decisions under pressure.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  6. Experience in developing and implementing processes and procedures to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  7. Knowledge of security best practices and frameworks.
  8. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  9. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  10. Experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work.
