About the Role

Mercer is seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Engineer to join our team in the Mexico City office. As a Data Governance Engineer, you will play a critical role in configuring and implementing Data Governance features and procedures on our Data Governance Platform.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Metadata Management: Establish engineering processes and standards to onboard logical and physical assets linked to our business applications, ensuring metadata and governance tools are onboarded onto our technology ecosystem in compliance with architecture principles and standards.
  2. Partnerships and Collaboration: Partner with systems and data architects to establish a regular technology cadence in updating systems and metadata assets needing to be on the enterprise metadata catalog platform, and collaborate with business stakeholders to share tools functionality and onboard assets to the platform.
  3. Metadata Onboarding and Data Quality: Understand metadata management principles and best practices, lead metadata onboarding and data quality engagements for the organization, and liaise with Information Security and DevOps to onboard new products linked to data and metadata management operations.
  4. Design and Influence: Conduct Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and write outcomes as whitepapers, share with the wider Mercer Technology community, and influence design changes including data model extensions to incorporate Mercer-specific needs to enable a sound Data Governance Platform.
  5. Operating Model and Support: Contribute to the establishment of the operating model on how to manage metadata assets and catalogs for all Lines of Business (LOBs), establish L3 Support process, and/or work as Product SME in support of the Data Governance tool suite.
  6. Shift Left Mentality: Influence and partner in propagating a shift left mentality in maintenance of business data terms, critical data elements, and business rules.
Requirements
  1. Deep Understanding of Data Management Principles: Possess a deep understanding of data management principles and data governance lifecycle and standards.
  2. Hands-on Experience: Have hands-on experience in enterprise integration using tools like Nifi, Python, Kafka, Informatica, and metadata management tools like Collibra, Informatica CDGC, AXON, EDC, or any other industry-standard tool.
  3. Knowledge of Data Technologies: Possess knowledge of Big Data/Data Lakehouse/traditional RDBMS/Vector Databases/Graph Databases and industry-standard data modeling tools.
  4. Self-Motivation and Communication: Be self-motivated to excel in a remote position, collaborating effectively with a remote team, and able to work and communicate with both business and technical stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.
  5. Support Self-Governance: Ability to support self-governance process by instilling discipline and establishing cadence with our business SME partners to ensure upload information assets generated in support of a solution.
