About the Role

Mace is seeking a highly skilled Cost and Commercial Lead to join our Consult business. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of commercial management services across a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the preparation of contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses to ensure formal execution by relevant parties.
  • Manage a large team of direct reports, driving the appropriate behaviors to achieve success and key performance indicators (KPIs), including a continuous improvement culture.
  • Drive measurement of valuations to ensure cost control and reporting services are enforced.
  • Direct the production of monthly post-contract cost reports and present them to the client.
  • Proactively identify costing associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges.
  • Oversee the evaluation of claims for delay and additional costs made by the contractor and any nominated subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Direct the issuance of certificates of practical completion to ensure final sign-off on accounts.
  • Advise on the issuance of certificates of making good defects and final completion in accordance with completion, submissions, and approval requirements.
  • Direct cost consultants to identify and execute opportunities that improve cost management procedures, templates, and products to enhance services provided to stakeholders.
  • Deliver continuous improvements in processes through the application of best practices and lessons learned.
  • Drive transformational change.
  • Collaborate towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering service excellence to clients.
  • Demonstrable experience in commercial management across a variety of sectors.
  • Sound understanding of costing and timescales.
  • Proven experience in areas such as risk management and change control management.
  • Proven experience of different types of contracts, including method of measurement.
  • Knowledge of BIM techniques and applications.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Digital comprehension.
  • Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
  • Professional membership, i.e., MRICS/RICS (or equivalent) and moving towards fellowship, or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Strong bidding and business development experience.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Sound knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law, and contractual frameworks relating to construction.
  • Management experience within large, diverse teams.
  • Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
  • Detailed knowledge in most forms of contract.
  • Sound knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law, and contractual frameworks relating to construction.
  • Knowledge of contractual frameworks relating to construction.
  • Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on contract administration and contract management.
