About the Role

Mace is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cost and Commercial Lead to join our Consult business. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading and maintaining exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability, and project compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Management: Lead the delivery of key assignments and defined business areas, providing strategic direction and monitoring delivery aligned with overall vision and objectives.
  • Client Relationship Management: Be the relationship owner and primary contact for Mace executive team engagement, and responsible for ensuring efficient governance to achieve our strategic priorities.
  • Cost Control: Directs preparation of the contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses to achieve formal execution by appropriate parties.
  • Team Management: Manages a large team (or several teams) of direct reports, driving the appropriate behaviours to achieve success and key performance indicators (KPIs), including a continuous improvement culture.
  • Cost Consultancy: Drives measurement of valuations to ensure cost control and reporting services are enforced.
  • Contract Administration: Directs the production of monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to the client.
  • Value Engineering: Proactively identifies costing associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges.
  • Claims Management: Oversees the evaluation of claims for delay and additional costs made by the contractor and any nominated subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Project Closure: Directs issuing of certificates of practical completion to ensure final sign off on accounts.
  • Continuous Improvement: Delivers continuous improvements in processes through application of best practices and lessons learned.
Requirements
  • Commercial Experience: Demonstrable experience of delivering service excellence to clients.
  • Cost Management: Demonstrable experience in commercial management across a variety of sectors.
  • Technical Knowledge: Sound understanding of costing and timescales.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience in areas such as risk management and change control management.
  • Contractual Knowledge: Proven experience of different types of contract including the method of measurement.
  • BIM Knowledge: Knowledge of BIM techniques and applications.
  • Negotiation Skills: Negotiation skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Analytical skills.
  • Degree: Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
  • Professional Membership: Professional membership i.e. MRICS/RICS (or equivalent) and moving towards fellowship, or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Business Development: Strong bidding and business development experience.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Sustainability Knowledge: Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
