Senior Underwriting Specialist

Position Overview:

The Senior Underwriting Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving the profitable growth of the business line as outlined in the annual budget. This individual is expected to embody AIG's core values, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and teamwork to achieve organizational objectives in accordance with AIG's guidelines and underwriting discipline.

This role requires effective and cordial communication to foster strong relationships with all stakeholders, including colleagues and clients. The Senior Underwriting Specialist will collaborate with various teams on projects, training sessions, and visits aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and promoting AIG's strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Functional Duties


• Manage business submissions exceeding $5,000 in average premium, selecting those that align with established guidelines and risk appetite. Analyze and present quotations, engaging in negotiations to finalize new policies while maintaining communication with the distribution team and adhering to service level agreements (SLAs).


• Participate in the monthly renewal process, ensuring compliance with guidelines and analyzing renewal terms for accounts with losses to achieve profitability in subsequent periods.


• Address portfolio requests promptly, providing necessary information to the issuance team to facilitate processing requirements while meeting SLAs.


• Collaborate with other AIG departments to fulfill information requests, such as claims-related inquiries, without influencing claim determinations, and provide technical advisories to brokers as needed.


• Maintain comprehensive underwriting documentation, including summaries, authorizations, analyses, and any other necessary records to ensure adherence to guidelines.


• Engage with external clients to promote AIG's business line strategy, providing training to agents and brokers to strengthen relationships and create new business opportunities while upholding AIG's values.


• Work collaboratively with various internal teams to resolve service issues that exceed response times, ensuring timely solutions within underwriting authority.


• Contribute to the preparation of reports and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs), including AAL, LTP, and other relevant metrics.


• Participate in assigned projects aimed at operational improvements, such as process automation, requiring active involvement.

2. Performance Expectations


• Achieve individual underwriting goals as outlined in the annual budget, with monthly progress reviews.


• Contribute to team objectives for new business strategies and portfolio retention, with monthly assessments.


• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.


• Meet SLAs for all business requests.


• Provide support to internal and external clients requiring underwriting assistance.


• Actively engage in projects that necessitate underwriting participation.

• Minimum of one year of experience in a similar role or familiarity with property insurance terms and conditions.
