Job Summary

Corning Inc. is a leading innovator in materials science, and we are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Section Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for facilitating and directing daily production activities to ensure control and compliance to established process control and operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and Prioritize Production Activities

Develop and implement efficient production schedules to ensure compliance with product changeovers, upgrades, experiments, new product runs, training, and maintenance activities.

Lead and Direct Production Teams

Provide daily direction to production and maintenance employees, team leaders, technicians, and engineers on established procedures and policies.

Communicate and Report Production Metrics

Communicate and report production and process performance metrics to production teams, plant operations staff, and functional leaders to ensure that production targets and delivery requirements are met on a daily and weekly basis.

Identify and Implement Process Improvements

Engage with plant teams and functional groups responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements and cost reduction projects.

Develop and Reinforce Career Development Plans

Perform performance reviews and develop and reinforce career and talent development plans for salaried/indirect labor and hourly/direct labor employees.

Ensure Process Discipline and Compliance

Ensure that the production process is operating in compliance with established process control set-points and operating procedures, and enforce process discipline and rigorous change control.

Protect Intellectual Property

Ensure the protection of Corning's Intellectual Property (IP).

Develop and Implement Training Programs

Develop, implement, and monitor training, qualification, certification, and development programs for new and experienced operators, team leaders, and engineers.

Facilitate and Monitor Process Changes

Facilitate and monitor all process/equipment changes and experimental plans involving the production process, including process improvement, new product trial runs, equipment/tooling redesign, raw material, batch and/or component changes.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.

Frontline Supervisory Experience

Frontline supervisory or team leader experience in a plant manufacturing environment, demonstrating capability to hold people and teams accountable to process control and discipline.

Leadership and Project Management Experience

Experience with leading teams and projects to meet significant continuous improvement goals, cost reduction, or performance improvement initiatives.

Process Management Systems

Experience and understanding of process management systems, process control, and discipline techniques.

Supervisory Effectiveness and Conflict Resolution

Trained and experienced in supervisory effectiveness, conflict resolution, and effective listening skills.

Cost Accounting and Profitability

Training and understanding of cost accounting and managing for profitability.

Safety and Health

Trained and experienced in fundamentals of safety and health.

Process Engineering

Experience in a process engineering role, capable of performing in-depth analysis to solve complex problems.

New Product Launch

Exposure to launching and ramping new products into manufacturing.

Performance Excellence

Green Belt certified in Performance Excellence, Lean, and DMAIC methods.
